GM and Chrysler are begging us for billions of dollars. I think it is only fair that they give up on expenditures that cannot be justified in terms of product development or increased sales. I don't know if NASCAR pays off in that way for GM & Chrysler, but it seems pretty clear that the feds don't believe that "win on sunday, buy on monday" works anymore. Honda dropped out of F1 for this very reason. Heck, hasn't Subaru dropped out of the WRC??
I see no reason why the car companies should be allowed to continue with business as usual when they are begging for our tax money to survive. Isn't that what taking responsibility for their decades of mismanagement and squandering of engineering talent, design talent, and brand identity is all about?
