Them's ugly Bimmers, though.
One of the recent car mags opined that BMW is making similar mistakes that GM made by diluting the brand to offer something for everyone. A premium sports sedan that can also haul bags of top soil? When it has never been known that way before? Hmmm.
When I turned in my 9000 for a 9-5 I complained that Saab didn't offer a hatchback. I was told by the salesman that extensive research by the company clearly demonstrated that luxo buyers manifestly didn't want hatch backs.
I rejoined back then that Saabs aren't luxo brands, and their appeal is in areas of function, engineering, durability ... He then showed me how the cupholder worked, since I seemed to be someone who appreciated engineering.
But, yes, Saab could have built a quality, sporty hatchback in the 9-5. But since GM "knew" that Cadillac buyers didn't want a hatchback, it must follow that Saab buyers didn't either, even though Saab owners seemed to prefer hatchbacks.
Who are you going to believe? Your own eyes? Or the GM consumer research department?
The more I think about Saab's travails the more irritated I get.
