I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. It reminds me of dealer/indy mechanics.
4 yr Old Windows XP laptop had Blue Screen of Death. It doesn't have an internal CD drive, so I couldn't reload. Took it to Big Store/Repair Squad. They charged for major diagnostic, told me the hard drive was shot, but it wouldn't be worth replacing -- I should buy a new laptop (all have Vista).
I shopped for an indy computer repair place. Their quote on the phone was cheaper, but this is really an already-replaced laptop (Internet purchase, so I could get XP) so I waited a couple of months.
I took it in to the indy computer guy. They booted it up and ran it for 24 hours and everything was fine.
Just one of those Windows things? Big Store/Repair Squad competence an issue? Willful actions by Repair Squad to sell up to a new Vista box?
