He has some good points but it sounds like typical WSJ stuff. He fails to mention the fact that healthcare costs here have skyrocketed and that healthcare and pension obligations are not a burden for companies from more socialist countries. That's why the Detroit 3 "skimped on quality and features." You can put a lot into a car for $500 to $750 of cost. He also fails to mention that the quality of the domestic corporation products has come a long way, often surpassing the Japanese companies' products. Also, other countries have limited the export of our products into their markets. Our "protectionist" policies aren't as bad as other countries. Other countries take care of their manufacturing base. We have to as well. You need to have manufacturing to export goods and bring money into an economy. What else is made here anymore? I always say, "you can't export haircuts and carwashes."
