If you have been reading the other threads on this here, Koenigsegg is just the face of a consortium involved in the purchase with the other financial backers bringing a lot of business experience to the table. The Koenigsegg car company will bring some forward thinking engineering ideas to merge in with the engineering Saab does itself. Saab will run the company itself, with direction from the new owners. It will be similar, I hope, to back before GM bought Saab. Hopefully
1) Koenigsegg can provide the vision, like Steve Jobs does for Apple
2) The other investors can provide business guidance (and hopefully good ideas for marketing messages)
3) And Saab can get back to focusing on the things that made it innovative back in the '80s combined with powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engines that will appeal to people looking for energy efficient cars.
At least, that is how it looks like it could play out. Will they succeed? Who knows? But I would rather see them have this shot to take than be snapped up by some other big company that does not care. From what I have read, Koenigsegg and the other buyers WANT to help return Saab to success. Passion and new thinking may be what is truly needed right now. Who is to say that GM and Chrysler will succeed in what they are trying to do?
