personal story... aren't they all?
anyway, a couple of years ago I purchased an unlimited use Carfax license for a 3 month (as I recall) time use. I was buying allot of cars and selling them and all that. Checked out everything with a VIN number that I saw, even cars that didn't interest me, just to see what the reports might contain.
One night, too much time on my hands, I decided to run all of my cars. These included the original "OLDSAAB" (we sold a couple of years ago with 380,000 miles on in R-12 AC still working!) that my wife had been in two accidents with (replaced the B piller and right front door on the worst one - CHP came to do the accident report - towed away on a flatbed - the whole show on that one) and not one report on either of the accidents!
Then I ran my 1992 9000CDT (which I still have 288,000 miles later) and I was hit in the RF door on I-5, again full E Ticket ride, CHP report, flatbed tow, insurance had the RF door, trimm, B Pillar and painted the entire right side of the car. Not one mention of that either.
Based upon the above, the only thing I consider when looking at a car fax is where the car has been smogged or registered and the mileage reported so I can gauge possible rust issues and if the seller has a clue about the past geographic locations of the car, or is telling a fib about it.
of course your mileage may vary...
