I got my UK drivers license when I was 17 (I'm from Scotland) and it took 6 months of weekly lessons and I failed the test....three times. It was easier then than now too. There was no written test, just the driving and oral tests. When I got my first US license in Florida in 2005 it was so easy it was silly. I went to the DMV to ask what I needed to do and ended up just sitting the test there and then and passed with no faults on either test. If I had failed I would have had to wait 24 hours to re-sit the test, in the UK you have to wait 4 weeks before you can re-sit. It's MUCH tougher.
It was, however, even easier to get my Nigerian drivers license though. No written test, no practical test, just pay for it and walk out the door. Driving standards were very poor and the death toll on Nigerian roads is horrific.
