I haven't closed my sun shade in years... First of all, if you want a steel sunroof, and you have a 9000, you can just get one from an older car and swap it out. If you have a newer Saab, I don't think it's that easy.
I like having some ambient light reaching inside on rainy or snowy days, and I don't find it necessary to close the sun shade on sunny days because the tinting is dark enough (for me) that I don't mind.
With a steel roof, you don't have the option of having light enter the car at any time that you don't want the roof open. To me, the option is well worth the drawbacks of a glass roof.
