A few thing's I've noticed locally:
I used to figure used Volvos + Audis ran a few $k more than a comparable Saab (eg 4 years old certified off lease normal miles), this year they are *many* $k more.
Used off lease Subarus cost as much or more here than Saabs. Eg we compared dealer lots, and the going rate for a base model Impreza was the same as the going rate for a 9-3ss (both 2006 off lease certified identical miles ~35k). Forester + Outback weren't much more, and neither was 9-5.
I've concluded that Saabs are still a great value used, but availability of cars with certain characteristics seems to be smaller than previous years (related to past model year new sales volumes)... I bet 4 years from now, 2009 used Saab selection will be pretty thin! That said (knock on wood), in 2013, the recession will be done + we'll all want to buy brand new, outstandingly innovative K-Saabs...
That may be true of many cars... recession, people buy used to save money...
Oh, and B. Miller - as a used Saab buyer, you should be happy they depreciate fast, it means you'll get your next one cheap as well! Imho, if you keep it up + keep records, that 2004 9-5 Aero will hold it's value better than the average 9-5 from here on out... vintage is important.
