Considering it is almost 10 years old and probably only worth about $5K if that, I don't think painting it would affect the value much in the long run. When my Dad bought our first new VW bug the choice was black or sand. And the radio was extra. I thought the new ones only came in orange, lime green, and yellow ;-) Enjoy it.
