I have a 2006 Saab 9-5 AERO SC (new to me recently) and my favorite 3rd fun car- a 1977 Porsche 911S TARGA. Actually it's a toss up between the two - now that I drive the AERO daily and the Porsche is stored for the winter. So what's my point- the parts are available for the Porsche even after 30+ years. There are a lot of aftermarket parts - and given how these cars are maintainable - there are OEM parts too. Just follow the web sites for Porsche. You could probably keep these cars running for ever.
Now compare that to Saab. Yes - I know there have been changes in the certain aspects of the 2.3L motor over the years on the 9-5. and other components, but really the car has been the same for a lot of years – am I correct? I'm sure with the age of the 9-3SS now it is the same in some aspects. Doesn't that mean something to keep these cars running given they didn't change too much.
Another perspective - my 911 even has a Euro 3.0 motor and definitely there are issues finding replacement fuel injection parts here in the U.S. - much less finding someone to work on my motor. Regardless there are always options for me. I can even switch over to electronic fuel injection if I had to. There's a kit for this.
So am I personally worried about my Saab 9-5. Not really over parts and warranty. Actually more so ( a little ) over finding good service in the future.
My issue is going to be way down the road. This 2006 is the 2nd Saab - the first being bought new - a 2001 Saab 9-5 wagon just like the 2006 I have now. What am I going to replace it with! We tried and there is no other wagon for various reasons that compare to the Saab 9-5 SC. I'm not interested in VW, Mercedes or Audi.
