Recently, I said goodbye to my once faithful but turned problematic 1996 900SE turbo 3dr for a 2007 C230 sport.
Yes, the MB is more complex, but as it is not a turbo motor it's actually not that bad, and they are both ODBII cars, so a code reader is an important tool. Obviously, I haven't done anything major to it yet, but just because it wears a 3-pointed star doesn't mean it can't be worked on by an experienced car guy.
Seriously, check our MBWorld.org to see what the owners can do with these cars. Over there, there are actually two forum areas that might be of interest to you: "C32 AMG & C55 AMG" AND "C-Class (W203)"
Man, a C55 AMG. Great car. I'm envious. I went for the smaller-engined (2.5 L V6) C-class for better fuel economy for my daily commute (and because my "hot toy" is the old 911 in my garage).
