Porsche and VW have had on again/off again relationship for years, often doing what was not really good in the long term interest of either company. If they do things like this article suggests, I think it would be good for both firms. The lower-priced model is something Porsche has always resisted and typically not done well, be it the 914, 924 or even the 944. The cars were OK, but Porsche didn't do well in dealing with customers who had shallower pockets than the guys who would spring for a 911 and have it serviced religiously at a Porsche store.

I've always loved Porsches. Just never could afford one. And if I could buy anything I wanted right now it would probably be a Cayman. Bringing the brand down market a little would be a good thing, and make a great brand more accessible. And also help make sure it stayed around.
