I do understand your point of view, and it is definitely valid. Selling old technology has to be done with some basic business sense (and even national interest in mind). But, the Europeans, Japanese, and Americans have done this for a long time, some with a better mindset than others. : )
The major issue is the rest of the World is catching up now, so if any company/nation wants to survive, the era of 'it is all about me' MBA culture has to end.
Anyway, as it is now, there will be no Chinese SAABs. They will buy the old 9-5 assembly line and use it to produce some local car that probably will have different front end, etc. GM is trying to make a buck by selling the assembly line, that is it.
As far as the Big3, at this point I'm cautiously optimistic all three will pull out of this after the recession really ends. Ford is already moving forward, Chrysler has an interesting chance now with the tie-up with Fiat. GM may be better served now after all this chaos blows over and they have four major brands to focus on in the US. The current Chevrolet and Cadillac cars are not bad at all (FINALLY).
