They key to a very long and productive life of a 9-5 V6 is to change the timing belt, tensioner and pulleys religiously at 60k intervals, and the water pump every second timing belt. Figure on spending about $2,000 at an independent for this work. Failing to do it will, at some indeterminate mileage, result in the belt, or one of the tensioner pulleys breaking, resulting in pistons hitting the open valves, and trashing the heads. Little to no warning will be evident, though the car may run roughly, or you might hear odd noises from the right side of the motor.
Rebuilding the heads is not an option (though I'm not clear on why...), so you'd be in to new or used heads, and a total bill of over $5,000.
People have gone past 60k, but with every mile, you're gambling that the motor keeps on running. Almost none will last to 100k or 120k with the original timing belt. And, since you've got a 9 to 9 1/2 year-old timing belt in there with only 50k, I'd suggest you get it changed as close to 60k as possible.
