My guess is that GM didn't want to get stuck for for warranty work on the cars that it didn't make. If SAAB reverted to GM after the new company failed, it would be responsible for a liability that it didn't expect, not to mention the parts problem it would encounter trying to maintain a short-run, orphan car. The warranty cost on the GM-sold SAABs was already factored into the selling price. Depending on the agreement, warranty work on existing cars could either be billed back to GM, or transferred to Spyker through a reduction in purchase price. I agree that the work will done by Spyker. Who the bill actually goes to will be known by the dealers pretty quickly after the sale is finalized.
