We all have tales to tell of growing up and in particular stories that happen in and around cars.
Given the amount of snow that has fallen in the Northeast this year, here's one that I remember well -
This is around the mid-70s, and we had just had a huge snowstorm in upstate NY. Dad, being the workaholic he is, still wants to get into work. We snow-blow the driveway, but in the meantime the plow has come by and put up and impenetrable wall of heavy snow at the end of the driveway (I'm sure others have experienced this).
I'm about 9 or 10 at the time and it is taller than me, so needless to say, it would take some time to manually clear. Dad's in a hurry. There are two cars for him to take - His 1974 Pontiac Grand Prix or the 1972 Chevy Kingswood Estate powered by the 454 cubic inch V-8.
So Dad gets into the wagon and powers down the driveway (about 150 ft) and absolutely blows through this snow-wall like wet tissue paper.
Huge car, huge engine, full-on chrome steel bumpers - me and my brothers were jumping for joy at seeing that happen! He broadslides neat as you please into the road an up to the street without stopping. Dad was such a hero to us that day. And he still is to us every day since, not specifically for any car antics, but just because he is such a solid citizen, husband, father and now grandfather.
Any cool car stories to share?
