Outback is midway between 9-3 and 9-5 in size. With seats down, the 9-3 actually holds *more* stuff than an Outback (even though Outback is slightly longer). Used to be about the same with the seats up, but Subaru has increased its cargo room for 2010 (sorry, for those of you down south, but you get the gist of it):
2010 Subaru Outback:
length=4780 mm
cargo up/down=972/2019 L
2007 Subaru Outback:
length=4759 mm
cargo up/down=847/1851 L
2007 Saab 9-3sc:
length=4653 mm
cargo up/down=841/2047 L
2007 Saab 9-5sc:
length=4841mm
cargo up/down=1042/2067 L
For that model year, the 9-5 is actually bigger than a v-70 as well... yes, we looked into this stuff! btw, we found that a 2007 Outback wagon with the seats up holds exactly the same amount of stuff as a 1993 c900 sedan, if you avoid piling the wagon up above the rear window level (ie so you can see out the back).
