I'm getting mountained out. They're just everywhere out here, cluttering up the joint and trying to kill everyone. You either have to go around them, over them or through them and none of those are good options. After a whirlwind trip to Michigan in which I had one week (four days were devoted to driving there and back) to close on the sale of my house, pack it all up and move out, all I wanted to do was go home. But no. I get 45 miles from Glenwood Springs and it turns out there was a massive rock slide blocking both lanes of one the major arteries across the country (I70)--and it could be months before it opens. We're talking rocks the size of semis--I drove through there a week ago. So I have to drive 150 miles to get around it. That was Monday night. Tuesday some poor lady was driving the same detour when a rock fell on her, killing her instantly. The roads over here are just trecherous. They don't have reflective markings so it's hard to see at night. Since you're either goin uphill, downhill, or around a corner (and usually two out of three) you can't take your eyes off the road for a split second. Half the time they don't even have guard rails and the severity of the drop seems to have no bearing on whether or not they put them up. And the sun melts the roads right down to bare pavement within hours of a snow fall which might sound good, but anywhere there's a shadow from a mountain you instantly have black ice which is always a fun transition. They don't even deliver mail or newspapers, so if I want them (or anything else) I have 62 corners and a nearly 1,000 foot verticle drop just to get to the main road into town. And of course that's no picknick either. Throw in the possibility of sharing the road with elk, deer, bears, coyote, and the ever present falling rocks and it just never ends. Somebody please help me.
