Some pick-a-part yards have a minimum posted amount, maybe $25-35, but it doesn't always mean much.
The pick-a-parts usually have an inventory of the cars and parts and will give you price based on that, factoring in that you pulled the part. Price depends on demand or overall availability of a part. And how many they have on hand.
I've been quoted $50 and $100 for a front seat for a 9K--at the same yard. OTOH, I've paid $75 for an ordinary 15" 9K alloy rim that usually sells online for $50-ish. But at the yard I have it right away, don't have to ship it, and if it's not straight I can go back for another. Small bits and pieces like switches are best pulled in a batch and they may just look at half a dozen and say "$25." An entire RF door for my daughter's 9K was $110 at a yard where they pull the parts.
I usually just go in, see what's there and pull a bunch of stuff that I'd like to have around or that I need. I think it's hard to get ripped off, but for something like a taillight, know what a new ones goes for. Try to pay half or less if you can. Sometimes much less.
Good luck, have fun. Yards can be great!
