Low mileage is pretty common on British cars of that era. Often it was a matter of the speedometer no longer working or no one being able to keep one running long enough to rack up a lot of miles. It wasn't so much that they were unreliable but more the fact that parts and service were very expensive and hard to find (there was no internet at the time). So when something expensive went wrong, the car would end up sitting in a garage for years waiting for parts and/or the money to fix it. It was often a similar situation to a few years back when people would junk a C900 because it needed a new transmission and the value of the car wasn't enough to justify it. They only sold Jensen Healeys here for a couple of years so one can imagine how hard it was to get parts once the small handfull of dealers disappeared. The 70's were a particularly bad time for all but a small handfull of cars. Even the top 911 of 1973 only had about 150 horsepower. A manual trans Yaris would out perform, out handle, and out brake about 99% of the cars from that era.
