As I suspected, living here in the wilderness I'm going to have to go with what I can find. Bridgestones like I have are outragiously expensive and not known to last so they were voted off the show. I got a price of $622 on a Michelin Harmony from MI. My trusted tire guy there says they're as good as the MXV4 but because they aren't speed rated they're slightly cheaper. I got a price of $722 here on the same tire (everything is more expensive here)from Big "O". I got a price of $891 for a Cooper C54 V rated tire--sent that contestant home. And I have a price of $569 on a Toyo Extensa and $595 for a Hancuk--both tires are "V" rated. I had a few other prices on other tires but those are the ones that made it to the elimination round. Any thoughts? For $150-200 extra I'm thinking of the Michelins. Even though the Subaru will haul pretty good (240 horse six) I just don't tend to drive it that way and so don't see myself needing "V" rated tires. Hell on the roads here I'm lucky to hit 45 MPH when I'm not braking for elk, deer, bears and bicylists who take their half out of the middle.
