New York state from the Albany area north to Canada has a higher percentage of Saabs in the overall vehicle fleet than almost anywhere else in the US . This is in no small part due to 2 active dealers both of which have struggled due to GM's plan to destroy Saab.

New Salem Saab as an exclusive Saab dealer is the oldest US dealership left and about to celebrate 50 years. This celebration just a few months ago was about to be a funeral. Everything was conspiring against them, no cars,no leasing and no banks would support a dealer for a "dead" brand.

Now we have an independent SAAB company and the head of the company becomes completely conversant with the issues of each dealer ship. Victor Muller is proving to be a hands on dynamic leader and Darryl Carl, the 3rd generation owner of New Salem Saab is now moving forward again.

50 Miles north of Albany North Country Imports in Glens Falls faced similar hurdles, but at least had Subaru to keep going with. When GM made their deal with Koening they decided for some stange reason to end the new car sales to NCI. When that sale fell through we are left wondering what the future would bring for such a great dealership.

So there can be no better news than what we have heard this week. Both dealerships have survived and new Saabs are rolling in. This becomes one of the essential parts of what the SaveSaab rallies were all about. A future in which we could participate with being able to buy and utilize unique vehicles.

Sure there will be bumps in the road as it progresses forward, but it is great to talk about good news for once and look forward to a positive future!

Bill
