This is two transactions and you have to look at them that way. You already got 3 years of use for the cost of the lease, so that's miles out the tailpipe. It's done. Get over it.

Buying a car you leased is rarely the cheap way out, but it can be the most affordable in cash flow terms, and that is sometimes how you have to look at it. Affordability can be real important.

CRVs are good cars for what they are, and if you like the beast and plan to keep it several more years, then buying it makes good sense. As you say, it becomes a very inexpensive Honda. So don't look at the total cost but the value of having a car that's a known quantity that has many more years of life left. And remember, if you dump it and start over with another lease you get to go through this all over again in 24-36 months.
