When Saab first showed Trionic nearly 20 years ago,it was an innovation, something nobody else was doing at the time.
Today, I'm sure that Motronic does everything Trionic does, and probably more. Being part of a MUCH larger installed base will help Saab with the engine management in terms of reliability, and response time to any problems.
Plus, a Motronic system is probably more "accessible" to the average mechanic. If there exists a generic Bosch scan tool, it'll likely work on the 9-5, and give the mechanic a complete view of what's going on, unlike needing a Tech2 to get past Trionic's OBDII mandated generic codes and functions.
Saab also needs to work leaner, and not having to support a Trionic team will certainly help there!
