...against the Cadillac. Instead of simply taking your brand preferences and making statements without fact you should consider the qualitative and quantitative aspects of each vehicle and maybe take the Caddy out for a drive followed by a BMW or Benz to compare for yourself (although you will definately just brush off any positive impressions that you might have of the Caddy as irrelevant).
Everyone will have their preferences based on various factors but your bias against the Cadillac doesn't seem to be backed by any facts, simply your own views and pre-conceived notions. I'm not a huge Cadillac fan myself but I do see some value and qualities in the newer models that might make me consider one in the future (like maybe a CTS wagon with AWD).
Have a look around and you might see that there are numbers to support the Cadillac being in the same league performance-wise (one win and one loss) as some German vehicles:

Also, I was wondering which Italian or French sedans (4 door or 5 door) you were thinking might be compareable. In any case, they had better have around 500+ hp so they can actually be competitive. And remember, I didn't say they fit into the same league in terms of fit and finish or prestige, simply performance and probably value for money.

Theo
