is that Clinton actually worked hard with Greenspan to reduce the deficit, and has the results to prove it. Of course it did not hurt that the economy was booming and life was optimistic. Remember the stock market in those days??! Like to have that money back.
I know it is counterintuitive, but it does seem like the Dems are doing a better job on the economy, and the Reps are spending like drunken sailors. Regan went from $1trillion to $4 trillion debt. Clinton from $5T to $6T, and Bush from $6T to 10 or 12, depending on how you account for the wars and bailouts.
And yeah, you can try to blame congress, though Bush had both houses for 6 yrs, but it was the directive of Pres to control, or not, expenses. Veto does work.
I'm just really frustrated that we are going to be spending more on interest than anything really constructive. We need politions who will do the best for us in the long term, not what is best for them in the short term. If interest rates go back to recent levels, then we could be paying $1-2Trillion a year in interest. Wonder what else we could do with that money....
