wrt stereo, "stereo" in the form of bose wave etc, isn't stereo anyway... sure there's left and right speakers... but unless they can be separated sufficiently, might as well be mono...

Like he said, stereo in the kitchen is largely irrelevant (you move from place to place anyway as you work - no way to fully appreciate stereo in most cases)... and besides, sound in a kitchen is background music... kind of have to sit down to listen properly (at least in an audiophile quality sense)... I'd go for good tonal balance + good reception etc... I just leave the hifi on in the adjacent living room, but that might not work for everyone...

I don't have any specific suggestions. Sorry (though I suppose one could look at some of the small components from ProJect and their ilk)... good luck!
