Good choice! I have the same situation as you. I have the Tivoli Model Two with the separate CD player and Sub Woofer. I also have a Sirius receiver I want to play through the unit also. The CD player is connected to the "AUX IN" jack, the Sirius is connected to the "MIX IN" jack located directly below the AUX IN. When I want to listen to my Sirius I simply put the selector knob in AUX and keep the CD player off. When I want to play a CD or listen to the radio the Sirius is off. Just be aware the MIX IN is always active regardless of the position of the selector knob, so whatever you have connected to the MIX IN you would want to keep off when you want to listen to the CD player or radio. Or else you'll be listening to two things mixed together!
As far as your suggestion, you'll be fine if you were to connect two sources to one input with a splitter, just make sure you only have one thing on at a time or you'll get some really weird mixed together audio. But you won't "break" anything.
