Saab incentives have often been pretty generous, whether they be promoted as customer rebates or factory to dealer incentives or a little of both. The deep discounting is what helps to contribute to the car's "poor resale" reputation.
Right now Saab needs to try to rebuild confidence in the brand and the company and discount/lower prices helps to get customers (back) into the showrooms. However, they also need to make sure it doesn't across as "fire sale" desperation pricing.
Fortunately "Leasing is Back!" as I think many people including Saab loyalists are probably finding a brand new Saab purchase a bit more risky right now. At least leasing provides protection against any possible resale free-fall IF something happens to the company during the next few years. Hopefully things will go well!
It will be interesting to see how the new 9-5 does and how/when incentives will come into play on that model. $50k (plus options) for the Aero puts it up against some strong competition. It may be a tough sell without some decent incentives, at least on the leasing side.
