but not Lexus.
Mazda has a design studio in Southern California, I used to think their designs fit the US market. Now I don't know what they're thinking anymore. No question, the Mazda Shinari will win some awards as it is stunning (I didn't say it's good or bad).
There is a disconnect somewhere between designers and what customers would like to see, in this case mostly SAAB owners here.
I used to think of all the Japanese car makers, Honda designs had the best clean functional lines and Toyota/Nissan tied for the worst. Mazda overtook Honda some years ago with designs from the California studio.
Now Acura have beaks and Infiniti keep to their dynamic/organic theme, Lexus/Toyota did nothing much. I've never cared for the designs from Subaru or Mitsubishi. No much exciting new cars from Japanese makers thus far.
The newer BMWs are actually better now as they are mostly done with the Bangle butts and flame surfaces.
The Audis are well Audis, kinda like VWs, understated but functional. Same go for the Mercedes-Benz, nice clean lines but not good value for the money.
Now we are left with SAAB. The new 9-5 certainly holds promise. I've never grown warm with the newer 9-3 design, they just don't look right, in sedan or wagon. The prior 9-5 (up to 2005) still has that Scandinavian timeless shape however.
So what is there left to buy these days with reasonable price tags ??
I don't know about you guys, the newer Hyundai and Kia look pretty good to me 8-)!
