I've heard shellac is the only answer Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 12 Oct 2010 04:08:59 In Reply to: OT: Pet Urine smell in old house, PT, Mon, 11 Oct 2010 18:58:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You have to thoroughly coat all saturated surfaces with a heavy coat(s) of shellac to seal in the odors.
But if the sub-floor is now visible, why not cut it out and replace it? You will likely need to leave a ~12-inch ribbon of the old sub-floor around the perimeter of all rooms so as to not require wall removal. Replace the majority of all sub-floors and shellac the perimeter ribbons of old floor.
Ozone generators may work to neutralize offending odors which penetrate just the surface of materials. But you have liquids which have penetrated deeply into the wood. Remove all of the wood you can and seal the rest. The ozone generator may clean the remaining stench from the air as step #3.
