Also important, check the manufactured date Posted by NCCaniac [Email] (#352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCCaniac) on Fri, 12 Nov 2010 08:49:26 In Reply to: Re: Recommended Battery Brands, Simon S, Thu, 11 Nov 2010 09:48:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I got my last Optima red top battery for my 2000 9-3, it ended up dying in about 9 months. Turns out the local auto parts store did not sell many of them and the one I had bought (which they sent from their warehouse) had been sitting in the warehouse for quite some time. You don't want to buy any battery of any brand that was manufactured more than a few months ago. The date is usually on top of the battery with month/year. Got a new "fresh" Optima and it is still going strong.
For reference, in my 2000 9-3 I have only had 3 batteries....the original one that came with the car, and now on my second Optima red top. Since the 9-3 engine compartment gets very hot, especially here in NC for many months of the year, I have been pleased with the lifespan of the Optima.
