...there are more than a few people on this board (myself not included) who own a Saab + an SUV of some type... iirc a while back GM did a study of what people bought when they left the Saab brand, and a very very large % of those were SUVs (I bought some 9-5 accessories from someone trading their 9-5 in for a GMC Acadia). Hence the 9-7x. It's a significant market in North America. This was pointed out to me when I used the feedback page on the Saab website 5 or 6 years ago to lament the loss of the hatch. What was not considered was that probably a massive chunk of those SUVs were Subarus that look more car like than most SUVs (Outback/Forester are categorized as SUVs)...
Personally, I have zero interest in the 9-4x, except that I hope it does well, and I am glad to see it is much more of a Saab than the 9-7x. I like the sportwagons and hatches + I'm keen to check out the new 9-3x and even more keen to see the 2012 9-3(x?). I think the main drawback to the newer cars in snow (vs the c900s for example) is the lower clearance (not awd, though awd sells up here), + I suspect something along the lines of the 9-3x is a better balance of sporty + clearance for those of us up north. The extra clearance of an SUV imho usually affects the driving characteristics too much.
