OT: Prices of antique hand saws Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 4 Dec 2010 10:54:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My brother-in-law died recently leaving my Nieces to settle his estate. He and I had both been given two of my Dad's old hand saws 14 years ago follwoing Dad's death, and I want to reunite the set.
Due to other difficulties in the extended family (i.e. brother-in-law's sister & brother) I insist on buying these from the estate. Wow, was I surprised at the prices for these old saws! Prices range from ~$150 to nearly $1K.
My Dad took great care of his tools but also used them extensively so the prices of these will be near the lower end. I already have my grandfather's Disston cross-cut saw, a Montgomery-Ward rip saw of my dad's (likely not an expensive saw), and an Atkins cross-cut saw of my dad's. One of the two I will be buying is a panel saw with high tooth count - a rare item, the other is another generic rip saw (I think).
Don't ever assume an old saw is just scrap metal!
