So currently you are just plugging the headphones into the iPod directly? Which model of Sennheisers?
imho, just about any headphone amp should be able to drive your headphones better. "doesn't cost too much" could mean anything in audio, but decent headphone amps can be pretty cheap, eg the Pro-Ject one is <$200 and Creek makes one for about $400. None of these are tube. Honestly, I think if you are tied down to a headphone amp anyway (ie this is not for outside the house), and depending what you have, you would be better off improving other things rather than going to tubes: 1) start at the source: get a *good* iPod dock with good dacs (at the lower end, maybe something like the Wadia itransport?), 2) make sure the source material on the iPod is top quality (bit rate etc), 3) possibly upgrading the Sennheisers depending which model you have + other factors... certainly before going too in over my head $-wise powering the Sennheisers, I'd listen to a basic Stax setup (they make tube drive units btw)...
