Not a lot here in Somerset, about 8 to 10 inches, but lots more elsewhere and some temperatures in Scotland are down to -20 Centigrade. The Scots are used to it, of course, even if their transport minister did have to resign over the issue a couple of weeks ago!
The problem in the south of England is that we're not as well prepared as you, because snowfalls happen less frequently and at irregular intervals, so we don't invest in the specialist kit neded to keep things going. So minor roads and villages like mine don't get any attention, and just getting to a main road is a problem for me.
There has been chaos on roads and railways. Heathrow International airport was effectively closed for two or three days and that involved 700,000 passengers, many of whom will not now fly till after Christmas. Just for once it's not just the UK that has failed to keep going - plenty of other European countries have been in big trouble too.
The Vredesteins have meant that if I find a problem - like the oil tanker that blocked our street for three hours on Monday after sliding into a wall - I just go round another way. I like the phrase "no season" tyres - that's what these are but they also have a snowflake symbol and are accredited in the Alps as snow tyres, apparently.
