You guys need to use this stuff for the graphite lube....it's called Neolube. It's marketed by a Sn3 Model Railroad manufacturer PBL http://www.p-b-l.com
Basically it is powdered graphite mixed with isopropyl alcohol. The cool thing about this stuff is you can "paint" it on the axles and wheel holes completely coating the friction surfaces with graphite. No need to score the axles with slots to hold in the powdered stuff.
It dries really quick and several good coats can be applied. Apply a coat let it dry, spin the wheels and repeat several times.
The problem with dry powdered graphite is that it gets all over and will flake out as the car rolls down the track - this stuff does not do this and won't wear off very quickly either. It can be cleaned up with soap and water.
I use this stuff to lube the axle ends on the wheelsets of model railroad freight cars and engines and it dramatically improves the rolling ability of them.
