Might be weather related... Posted by Wil W [Email] (#1148) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Wil W) on Fri, 18 Feb 2011 10:41:57 In Reply to: Spontaneous shattering window????, Mitch, Wed, 16 Feb 2011 08:19:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The spontaneous shattering could be weather related, due to freeze/thaw cycles. I had dealer person tell me this about washing my car below 25deg. They don't recommend washing below 25deg, they have run into instances that after putting the car through a wash, all was fine, but when the weather warmed occasionally a window would shatter (usually a fixed window like the rear glass). Their explanation was that water would get into cracks in the gaskets, expand when it froze putting undue stress on the glass creating unseen fractures. When it warmed and the ice melted and pressure was relieved causing the fracture glass to shatter. I'm not sure if this is true, though plausible, I don't see any reason they would tell me this other than to protect my vehicles.
