Nate,
I mean to say that usually it says smth like 'error XXX happened at address YYY in module ZZZ' and it's those XXX, YYY and ZZZ that I'm asking about.
You might need to check you hard drive for bad sectors and if it's ok then you'll have to re-install those modules mentioned with saved copies (e.g. from 'restore point') or from some updates/fixes (e.g. from SP1-2-3 depending if it's XP or Vista or 7 - or KBxxxx). If it's some driver-related (e.g. ZZZ is 'nvidia.sys') that you're lucky and you need only to re-install that driver. If it's NT.DLL or such - bad luck, it's system-related.
If the restore procedure doesn't help then you've got these main options below to go with:
- contact MS helpdesk if you purchased that Windows copy on your own
- contact the vendor if it came pre-installed on your laptop/workstation
- re-install the original OS
- they the world of Unix or BSD
Two last options require complete re-install of all the s/w you need: from office to sound-video editing or whatever you do with that boy.
