if you mean a quickie lube, well, I wouldn't trust them to change my oil either ;-)...

iirc, 9-3ss already has to be reset with a tech2 after an oil change... even 9-5 has to have the warning reset, but that is a trivial process. so in the future, the reset triggers an event in the computer log? easy. if a dealer (or indy) does the work, they get a premium entry (from tech2 equivalent)... incentive for dealer service... I bet having a log in the car might be handy for a tech up against a strange problem + wondering what might have been done already (if it was fast to access/searchable)...

dealer records are completely unavailable in Canada. They only have access to the work they did at that 1 dealer (usually incomplete) + when I have hammered salesmen, they cite privacy concerns... cars off lease have no records whatsoever. they do everything they can to wipe them clean + they are rarely local: shipped all over the place from auction. 1 in 10 cars, even for sale by owner, seem to have any records whatsoever... I might have a folder of receipts + excel sheet for each car, but most people (even the best intentioned) don't!
