It all depends on how handy you are and what your patience level is. Obviously easier if you take it to a shop to have it done, but it can be DIYed.
You will need a couple special things to do it properly. The main one being a powerful staple gun fitted with stainless steel (or copper) staples. The top gets stapled to the tack strip in the back. The tack strip is made of some kind of hard plastic and will not generally allow penetration with a run-of-the-mill household staple gun. If you use standard metal staples, they will rust away in no time. Hopefully your tack strip is intact, they can get broken. They are still available through a couple site sponsors. When you put the metal trim strip back on the car (just above the rear hood) be sure you put the screws in the same holes that you took them out of. They penetrate the new top, the tack strip, and the sheet metal. If you make new holes in the sheet metal, the old ones will be open and will leak.
There are instructions with pictures on the Townsend site (link below) if you want to check them out before you decide to attempt this.
