What I find incredible in all of this, is that the Swedish Govt doesn't want to spend taxpayers money to help saab in the short-term. Fair enough.
But what would it cost the Swedish Govt in unemployment benefits to employees that would be laid off if saab fails? And what about the knock-on effect with other companies supplying parts to saab and their employees? By my quick and dirty reckoning, unemployment benefits for 4800 employees X $1500/month X 9 Months = $64 Million. (That would be minimum). Of course, the optics for the politicians is that we won't help saab with taxpayers money.... but there is a hidden future cost.
Just my 2c.
