I saw that car when it was being tweaked.... The engine sat longitudily in the passenger compartment with drive shafts feeding both front and rear differentials. Almost no barrier between engine and driver - scary! For some reason the car was at GM's automatic transmission engineering center. This would have been in the late 1990s, a few years before I bought my 2000 9-5. GM did not have a chasis dyno on site capable of full performance testing so I am not sure why the car was there.
I drooled all over it anyway.
