Agree with you on the need to relocate the center of manufacturing . . . not necessarily shutting down the operation in Sweden, but possibly having a new production facility somewhere else that dwarfs the Trollhatan operation. Diversity is good, as the 9-4X production during Trollhatan shutdown showed. The local business environment and supply network in Sweden just don't have enough capital/money to plan/invest for the long term. Getting a global supply and distribution network to join in on an equity basis instead of debt is the right thing to do. I suspect the parts suppliers in Sweden were given the opportunity to participate on an equity basis for the unpaid parts but simply did not have the money. Can't really blame them, nor VM for being surprised at the suppliers shuting down their only customer. The parts suppliers may well be seeing the writings on the wall and want to get as much cash out as possible before there is no more carmaking in Sweden.
I thought the next "9-3," or whatever it is going to be called, will be the spiritual successor to the original 900. I had thought they might ditch the 9-3 name in favor of 900 because VM is said to not like the "9-3" name much. However, seeing now that they are trying to produce a full line of alternatives to BMW, the "9-" prefix nomenclature might just live on.
