On the Volvo's it is usually wrist pin knock and not piston slap but it might be confused since it is knocking overall.
Any greater overheat session of those engines and the bronze wrist pin bushing tends to get elongated allowing a knocking to be heard.
That knocking is heard at all times and varies with heat of the engine and load but can go on forever and never lead to any bigger engine failure.
