A few years ago a drunk totalled our 9-5 wagon while we were sitting at a traffic light - no one hurt, and our Saab gave up its life for ours.
Anyhow, in subsequent talks with our insurance agent - the drunk was held totally responsible and we were held blameless - she mentioned that were were fortunate that we would not be penalized for the total loss claim, since we already had a "claim" on our auto policy.
I was a bit puzzled, as we had never had an accident or loss - and she explained that the time we had our Saab towed in to the dealer (DIC expired) and used our towing benefit, it counted as a "claim" and a negative mark on our policy!
Ridiculous. I then asked to have the towing coverage removed, and she said it couldn't be done as it was included in the basic coverage. A call to a couple of other agents confirmed that this is industry-wide policy. We then joined AAA just for the towing benefit...
