I worked/lived in Brazil in the early 1990s and owned a SAAB C900 at my home in the US, so I looked for them, but don't recall seeing any. As far as I know SAABs were not widely distributed, i.e. if there were any dealers they were not mainstream. However, there were many gray-market and used car dealers for cars not locally manufactured or widely sold, and many people imported used cars (to keep the import duties down) from other countries - I knew someone who imported a then-current but used Mercedes 190E from the US. Another friend who had the means of doing so thought that driving a Mercedes was an invitation to get held up at gunpoint when stopped in traffic, an all too frequent event.
It was a great shock to the country when one of their national heroes died. Even though I'm not a Formula 1 fan, I'll have to go see the film.
