Great question - I'm far from an expert but here goes.. This should generate some great input.
I have a Husky 26 gallon Quiet Series. It uses 110V and has an oil less (universal) motor. My understanding is that the oil less motors have a few thousand hour service life, and once they're toast the whole compressor is a goner. However, the oil less are less expensive and run much cleaner. I'm pretty sure you can only get a vertical or horizontal model, not one that can be used either way. Mine is vertical and has great pneumatic tires (that's one of the reasons I bought it).
I can run pretty much anything short of air sanding tools (never needed to do that, either, I don't do body work). I chose the bigger tank to decrease usage of the motor. I used a friend's 6 gallon Thomas (twin tank style) to paint a house with an air sprayer and it did fine, just needed to run a lot. Would probably be able to do everything you described, no problem. Carrying it around (no wheels) was a pain and storage took more horizontal space than my vertical model.
I've been happy with the compressor. Buy a good impact wrench, anything that comes with a compressor as an accessory almost certainly won't work for lug nuts. Take their claimed torque and cut it in half, maybe 2/3rds, I use a Harbor Freight sprayer with no issues, I use Harbor Freight hoses and fittings too, a few of the fittings have been a bit dodgy but not dangerously so. Having air available for tires pretty much all of the time is great too.
Good luck!
