all ticket revenue goes directly to the state for political mismanagement. The towns don't get a dime. But the state is sure glad to see the revenue.

The state is mostly small towns, and in mine especially, the cops devote an inordinate amount of time and energy to writing traffic tickets. They'll pull you over and ticket you for having a license plate light out. Then at election time, the police chiefs try to justify hiring an extra cop claiming they lack manpower. The speed laws are set by the state, not local police, and in many places are clearly just to generate revenue, like a four-lane divided road with a 35 mph limit. Other non-speed laws are pure harassment and power trips.

As far as I know, though, I can flash my lights to warn other drivers there are cops lying in wait. But I'd still do it, legal or not.
